EuroSport commentator Bob Ballard has been removed from the booth at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Monday AEST.

The decision comes after Ballard made a sexist remark during Sunday's coverage of the women's beach volleyball competition.

During the match between Australia and Canada, Ballard said that the Canadian team "looked like they were playing in their bikinis".

The comment sparked immediate outrage on social media, with many users calling for Ballard to be fired.

EuroSport has since issued a statement apologising for Ballard's comments and confirming that he has been removed from the commentary team.

"We deeply regret the offensive comments made by commentator Bob Ballard during our coverage of the women's beach volleyball competition," the statement said.

"We have removed Mr Ballard from our commentary team and we apologise to all those who were offended by his remarks."

Ballard has since apologised for his comments, saying that he "misspoke" and that he did not intend to offend anyone.
